When the performance at Pontocho Kaburenjo was first proposed, my biggest concern was this:
Would Western string instruments truly resonate in a space designed for traditional Japanese performing arts?
That was my first thought.
Over the years, I’ve performed in outdoor venues and many unconventional spaces, but this was a world-first Candlelight concert at Pontocho Kaburenjo. Failure was not an option.
In mid-April, while preparations for the Kamogawa Odori were underway, I visited the theater for a site inspection.
I walked across different areas of the stage, testing the acoustics carefully.
After listening from multiple positions, I felt confident enough to move forward without additional PA support.
Then came an unexpected twist:
The stage would be covered with protective flooring for the performance.
A miscalculation on my part! 🤣
We adjusted by moving as far downstage as possible, making sure the sound would not be trapped behind the curtain line.
And then, of course, it rained. ☔️
We worked closely with the staff to keep audience movement to a minimum and prepared for every possible weather-related challenge.
Throughout the performance, I carefully adjusted how I shaped and sustained each phrase, taking the hall’s unique acoustics into account.
In the end, we made it through with teamwork, preparation, and trust.
Moments like these remind me that music is never just about playing the notes.
It is about understanding the space, adapting to the environment, and creating a shared experience with everyone in the room.

先斗町歌舞練場の公演🕯️が決まった時、
私が最初に不安に思ったのは、
「和楽器が響くために作られた空間で、
西洋の弦楽器は本当に響くのだろうか？」
ということでした。
これまでにも屋外公演やイレギュラーな会場を経験してきましたが、今回は世界初の試み。
失敗するわけにはいきません。
4月半ば。
鴨川をどりの準備中だった歌舞練場へ打ち合わせに伺い、舞台上のあちこちで音を出しながら響きを確認し
ヴィオラスペース大阪にて、
ベルリン・フィル首席ヴィオラ奏者、アミハイ・グロス氏によるマスタークラスの通訳を担当しました❣️
学生時代にエルサレム弦楽四重奏団の録音をたくさん聴いていた私にとって、実際にお会いできたことは感慨ひとしお🥹
今回は、後輩たちの奮闘を通訳という形でサポートさせていただきました。
音楽の現場で言葉をつなぐことの大切さを、改めて感じる時間となりました❣️
I had the pleasure of serving as the interpreter for the masterclass by violist Amihai Grosz at Viola Space Osaka❣️
As a student, I listened to countless recordings by the Jerusalem String Quartet, so finally meeting him in person was incredibly moving for me🥹
It was also a joy to support the younger musicians and witness their passionate work throughout the class❣️
梅雨が近づく6月、奇跡のようなお天気と素敵な空間の中で演奏できたことを、今でもよく思い出します✨

今日はモーツァルトの弦楽四重奏

休日にアンサンブルを楽しまれている生徒さん。
講師は、いろいろなパートを弾きながら、
「自分が1stヴァイオリンだったら、こうしてほしい！」
「ヴィオラがこう弾いてくれると、他のパートがもっと自由になれる✨」
「ここは、もっと乗せてほしい！」
そんな風に、音楽で対話をしながらアンサンブルを深めています。
時には、ヴィオラを持ち出して
「この指遣いのほうが自然かも💡」
「ボーイングは拍を感じながら考えるとまとまりやすいですね！」
…と、技術面も一緒に研究。
ただ弾くだけではなく、
“どうしたら音楽がもっと生き生きするか”
を一緒に考える時間です☺️

クラシックやお子さんに馴染みのある曲を演奏します。
強く弾いたり弱く弾いたり、滑らかに弾いたり歯切れよく弾いたり、音の表情の違いを体験したり、曲当てクイズなどを含んだ 参加体験型コンサートです。
